Rome is connected by a network of public transportation that includes buses, trams and two subway lines. Bus tickets and subway tickets are the same and must be purchased in advance. They are available in every subway station, tobacco shop and newsstand, and there are also many ticket distributors next to the main bus stops. Tickets are rarely sold on the buses.

A standard BIT ticket costs 1 euro and is valid for 75 minutes on every bus and subway. It must be printed at the beginning of the trip. there are random ticket checks and if you are found without a ticket you will have to pay a 100 euro fine. Children under 10 years old do not need to purchase bus and subway tickets.

Taxi: You will find taxi ranks in front of Termini Station, at the exit of the Fiumicino and Ciampino airports, and at the main tourist spots in Rome. You can also call a taxi at one of the following numbers: 06-5551, 06-3570, 06-6645, 06-4994, 06- 88177. When you call a cab, the fare will start running when you accept the waiting time they give you. Do not forget to check the taxi rates which should be posted on the back of the front seat. Taxi cabs in Rome are white. The fare from Fiumicino airport to Rome is 40 euro and from Ciampino airport to Rome it is 30 euro.

Transportation to Fiumicino airport from the Termini Station: Trains for Fiumicino airport leave from platform 26, located at the far right of the station. To get to the platform you can also pass through the underground shopping mall Forum, where you will find a moving walkway. The trains depart every 30 minutes. The first one leaves at 6:51 a.m. and the last one at 9 p.m..
 
Fiumicino: Between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. there is a night bus that runs from Fiumicino airport to Tiburtina Station. It also stops at the Termini Station.
Night bus schedule:
from Fiumicino: 1:15 a.m. - 2:15 a.m. - 3:30 a.m. - 5:00 a.m.
from Tiburtina: 12:30 a.m. - 1:15 a.m. - 2:30 a.m. - 3:45 a.m.
Bus nummber 40N connects the Tiburtina Station and the Termini Station at night.
 
Ciampino: This airport mainly accomodates charter flights and "low-cost" airlines. A Cotral bus connects the airport to the A line subway stop at Anagnina (a thirty minute ride to the Termini Station). Price of the bus ticket 1.03 euro. Buses depart every half hour. Attention: after 11 p.m. the only way to get to the city is by taxi or by Terravision bus. The city public buses don't run at night.
