Publius Aelius Hadrianus was born January 24th of the year 76 A.D. in Italica, Spain. Orphan since birth, he was taken in by emperor Trajan's family, who took care of him. Thanks to a brilliant military career, he became consul in 108 A.D. and on August 9th 117 he was officially adopted by emperor Trajan, beginning his rise to power. From then on, Hadrian will roam the Empire, building beautiful monuments in different cities. He died in Baia in 138 A.D., at 62 years of age, passing the empire on to his successor Antoninus Pius. Our visit will begin at Castel Sant'Angelo, originally the emperor's tomb, that became a fortress over the centuries. We will then cross the Tiber on Ponte Sant'Angelo (once the Aelian Bridge), built under Hadrian's orders to connect the city to his Mausoleum. We will pass through Campo Marzio and arrive at the Pantheon, designed by emperor Hadrian. We will visit the church of Santa Maria in Aquiro, built on the ruins of the Temple of Matidia (Hadrian's stepmother). We will then stop at Piazza di Pietra, where we will see the imposing external colonnade of Hadrian's Temple. Our visit will end in Piazza Colonna where we will admire the Column of Marcus Aurelius.

The visit include : Castel Sant'Angelo, Pantheon, Hadrian's Temple, church of Santa Maria in Aquiro. Visits available every day except Mondays. Entrance to Castel Sant'Angelo 10,00 euro per person.
